About Mommy Makeovers

At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania in Camp Hill, PA, Dr. Theodore T. Foley offers mommy makeover surgery to women who wish to reverse the negative effects of childbearing. Although motherhood is very rewarding, pregnancy and childbirth can cause a woman’s body to stretch and accumulate fat in areas like the abdomen and thighs. A mommy makeover consists of a combination of several surgeries like a tummy tuck, breast lift, and lower body lift. Each treatment will vary, depending on your cosmetic needs and desires. However, Dr. Foley will partner with you to develop a treatment plan that is unique to your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Foley performs complete mommy makeovers at his practice and can create a custom treatment plan that includes two or more complementary procedures to enhance your figure. Whether you want to slim down your midsection, enhance the breasts, or say goodbye to stubborn body fat after baby, he can design a mommy makeover package that addresses all of your concerns.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for a mommy makeover are women in good health who need assistance restoring their body after pregnancy and childbirth. A mommy makeover is best for women who have used a healthy diet and exercise to naturally restore their body, but there are still stubborn pockets of fat, loose skin, or other concerns that cannot be altered naturally. It is recommended that candidates seeking a mommy makeover not be planning any more pregnancies, as additional pregnancies will alter the work of this procedure. If you do get pregnant after your mommy makeover, a few touch up surgeries are usually needed to restore your results.

What to Expect

Most mommy-makeover surgeries include one or more of the following:

Tummy Tuck Surgery

One of the most popular procedures for mothers, this body contouring procedure can reshape your midsection and eliminate any excess fat and loose skin around the abdominal area. A tummy tuck may involve removing excess fat with liposuction and reshaping the abdominal wall. It also involves removing loose skin that may be creating a ‘shelf’ or a stomach ‘pooch’.

Breast Enhancement

If you have lost some weight after baby and your breasts are sagging or drooping, you may be a good candidate for a breast augmentation procedure with implants or a breast lift. If your breasts are too large, a breast reduction may be a better options for you.

Liposuction

Dr. Foley can perform liposuction on virtually any part of the body with localized fat deposits. If you are having a hard time losing excess fat around the hips, thighs, stomach, arms, or other part of the body, liposuction may be a part of your mommy makeover package.

Prior to the procedure, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss which procedures will be part of their mommy makeover treatment plan. Since a mommy makeover incorporates a number of different procedures, each patient’s surgical experience will be different. Most mommy makeover surgeries will be performed at the West Shore Surgery Center or a Pinnacle hospital with the patient under general anesthesia. The length of the surgery varies based on the number and types of procedures performed at one time. Because of the invasiveness of certain procedures, some patients will opt to stay overnight following surgery. Recovery time for a mommy-make over varies depending upon which procedures are done. However, most patients can go back to their normal routines after roughly the first month. Exercise should be avoided for 2 months post-surgery or when your surgeon gives approval. After surgery, you will slowly begin to see your transformed body as the swelling subsides.

Other Considerations

Most mommy makeover procedures are performed under general anesthesia and may be combined in a single visit. In some cases, we will need to spread out the procedures over course of a few months so the body has enough time to heal and recover between more aggressive procedures. Dr. Foley will determine what type of treatment timeline will work best for you. You can expect to see full results within a few months and up to a year after your surgeries. You will maintain results as long as you do not have additional children or experience any major weight fluctuations.

For many women, undergoing a mommy makeover can transform their figure and boost their self-confidence. If you want to have your pre-baby figure back, talk to Dr. Foley about body contouring and breast enhancement procedures that may be the perfect match for you.

Some mommy make overs can be nonsurgical and hence have very little to no downtime. These would include some of our noninvasive treatments like the UltraShape Power (which destroys fat), the VelaShape III (which reduces cellulite), and many of the aesthetic facial treatments that we have available. Patients typically choose to reduce abdominal, flank, and/or bra fat using the UltraShape Power and to reduce thigh cellulite using the VelaShape III. Some women also enjoy abdominal and/or arm skin tightening with the VelaShape III. Our most popular facial skin treatments include the DiamondGlow, which exfoliates and infuses the skin with antioxidants, and our rejuvenating chemical peels. Patients seeking mommy makeovers also typically enjoy also getting Botox to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Cost of Mommy Makeover

The cost of a Mommy Makeover ranges on average from $13,000. These prices include the physician, anesthesia, and facility fees assuming that your surgery is being completed in a surgery center. If your surgery needs to be performed at the hospital, the fees will be ~$1500-$2000 more depending on the procedure, the surgical time, and whether or not you choose to stay overnight at the hospital.
