OtoplastyIf you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your ears or have structural deformities of the ears after an accident, work with a board certified plastic surgeon in Camp Hills to undergo an ear surgery procedure. Dr. Foley has extensive experience performing reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. Ear surgery, also known as an otoplasty, can improve the shape of the ear and transform your appearance. It may be performed for both functional and cosmetic reasons.

Reasons to Undergo Ear Surgery

  • Reshape and resize the ears
  • Correct protruding ears
  • Revision surgery for a previous procedure
  • Correct deformities after injury or trauma

How Ear Surgery is Performed

Ear surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia, or under intravenous sedation. Dr. Foley will determine what type of sedation is most appropriate for you based on your individual needs. He will use a special surgical technique to reshape the cartilage through incisions made on the back surface of the ear or front of the ear. Ears can be pinned back or the lobe and other areas of the ear can be reshaped by repositioning the cartilage and tissues. Surgical scars are well-hidden in the natural creases of the ear or behind the ear.

The entire procedure typically lasts between two to three hours depending on how complex the case may be. Patients typically need at least a full week of rest to recover after this procedure and the head will be bandaged tightly to promote the healing process. The bandage may be removed about three days after surgery but Dr. Foley may have you wear it for up to three weeks after the procedure to ensure all the tissues heal completely. Stitches are typically removed about a week after surgery and any scars will fade over time.

Ear surgery that involves pinning back the ears or resizing the ears can transform your appearance and boost your self-confidence.
