About Thigh Lift Surgery
Board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Theodore T. Foley performs thigh lift surgery to contour the thighs to a slimmer form by removing excess skin. If the muscular contours of your thighs are hidden by loose, excess skin, then a thigh lift (also known as a thighplasty) can significantly improve the appearance of your upper legs. During this procedure, loose skin is trimmed and the remaining skin is tightened to create a smooth appearance. This surgery can help patients who struggle with skin chaffing caused by thighs that rub together. During your initial consultation at Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania, Dr. Foley will listen to all your cosmetic concerns and work with you to develop an ideal treatment plan.

The best candidates for a thigh lift are those who are at or near a stable, healthy weight. Patients who have loose skin hanging from the inner and/or outer thigh are ideal candidates for this procedure. Because thighplasty is a skin tightening surgery, patients who simply wish to remove fat, but otherwise have good skin laxity, will be better suited for a liposuction procedure. However, for best results, a thigh lift may include some liposuction to remove stubborn fat pockets.
What to Expect
Thigh lift surgery, if performed alone, takes about 2-3 hours to complete and is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. During a thigh lift surgery, the most common incision points are placed in the groin and in many cases, depending on the amount of skin to be removed, extends downward. The hanging skin is trimmed away and the underlying tissue is re-draped and tightened. Depending on the needs of the patient, the doctor will either perform a medial thigh lift, targeting the inner thigh, or a lateral tight lift, which targets the outer thigh. Patients who have an outer thigh lift will generally need to have their butt lifted as well. This combination approach is sometimes incorporated into an overall lower body lift for severe skin sagging. The recovery for a thigh lift is somewhat slow, but this is primarily due to the location of the incisions. On average, patients can expect to return to light activities within 2 weeks, and complete their recovery in about 6-8 weeks. Because of newly enhanced thighs and a slimmer thigh appearance, patients find that their self-confidence improves greatly after this surgery.
Depending on how much skin was removed, there may be scars that are evident outside of the groin area. Proper scar care is needed for the scars to heal safely. The surgeon will go over ways to minimize scarring during your recovery.

Cost of Thigh Lift Surgery
The cost of a Thigh Lift ranges on average from $5,825 to $7,045. If you are comparing prices between different plastic surgery practices, make sure you are comparing the fees which include all aspects of your upcoming surgery. These prices include the physician, anesthesia, and facility fees assuming that your surgery is being completed in a surgery center. If your surgery needs to be performed at the hospital, the fees will be ~$1500-$2000 more depending on the procedure, the surgical time, and whether or not you choose to stay overnight at the hospital. Also, your best choice for a cosmetic procedure of any kind is to choose a plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Theodore Foley, who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who is local to you. Not only will you receive the best surgical care that way, but you will also receive the best postoperative care. At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central PA, we encourage patients to call for a complimentary personal consultation with our plastic surgeon so a customized quote can be prepared for you by our staff. Some procedures, which do not require anesthesia, may be done at our office and would not then entail an anesthesia fee. If patients need to have their surgery at a hospital, prices are typically more expensive and will be outlined after consultation.
