About Upper Body Lift

At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania in Camp Hill, PA, Dr. Theodore T. Foley, performs upper body lift surgery to remove excess skin and contour the areas above the abdomen. Typically, several procedures will be combined and performed at one time to maximize results and to reduce the total length of the recovery process. Some patients may also decide to receive a lower body lift. However, board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Foley will perform these additional procedures at a different time. Upper body lift surgery commonly includes a breast lift, arm lift, and back lift, but every patient's treatment plan is tailored to their needs and goals. The overall goal is to tighten and remove excess sagging skin to produce a slimmer and smoother figure. Dr. Foley will discuss your options and create your treatment plan during your initial consultation.

Best Candidates

You are a great candidate for upper body lift surgery if you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, have excess skin in more than one area of your upper body, or if you want firmer, higher breasts. Generally, patients are in overall good health and have great skin elasticity. If you smoke, it’s recommended that you quit 6 – 8 weeks prior to surgery, as smoking decreases the body's natural healing process and increases the risk of complications.

What To Expect

With any surgical procedure, it’s important to have realistic expectations. Upper body lift surgery will require significant downtime and healing. Performing everyday tasks after surgery will be challenging, therefore assisted help is encouraged until you have completed the healing process. Upper body lift surgery is not a weight loss procedure and does not prevent future weight gain. Candidates should be at or near their goal weight before considering an upper body lift. Since each patient case varies, treatments will differ as well. Depending on the area treated, incisions may be made along the upper arms, armpits, and midsection of the back. All incisions are made in inconspicuous areas and back lift incisions are strategically made to be hidden by your bra strap. Surgery can last several hours depending on your treatment plan.

Other Considerations

Upper body lift surgery trims away excess skin and lifts certain areas of the body to create a more flattering contour. Results produce a slimmer, smoother figure that you will love. Although downtime can be significant, the results are long-lasting. A healthy diet and exercise routine is recommended to maintain your new slim figure, as weight fluctuation may alter results. Some patients may require additional surgery to “fine-tune” their outcome. Following all post-operative care provided by your doctor is essential. Strenuous activities should be avoided until your doctor has cleared you for such activities.

Cost of Upper Body Lift

The cost of an Upper Body Lift ranges on average from $8,000 to $9,000. If you are comparing prices between different plastic surgery practices, make sure you are comparing the fees which include all aspects of your upcoming surgery. These prices include the physician, anesthesia, and facility fees assuming that your surgery is being completed in a surgery center. If your surgery needs to be performed at the hospital, the fees will be ~$1500-$2000 more depending on the procedure, the surgical time, and whether or not you choose to stay overnight at the hospital. Also, your best choice for a cosmetic procedure of any kind is to choose a plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Theodore Foley, who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who is local to you. Not only will you receive the best surgical care that way, but you will also receive the best postoperative care. At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central PA, we encourage patients to call for a complimentary personal consultation with our plastic surgeon so a customized quote can be prepared for you by our staff.
