Breast Reconstruction Revision & Tummy Tuck

Mommy makeover is a term used to describe a combination of 2 or more surgical procedures to restore the shape and appearance of a woman's body after childbearing. Most commonly the procedures are breasts and abdomen, but could also include genitalia and buttocks. A mommy makeover can be performed as a single stage procedure; this often requires the surgery be done at a hospital due to it being over 4 hrs (as opposed to a surgery center). Many women choose to perform the breast procedure on a Friday and then to have the abdomen procedure on a Monday, both done at a surgery center, which often costs less vs one procedure at a hospital. The breast procedure might be breast augmentation (with implants), a breast lift, or a breast reduction. The abdomen procedure is usually a tummy tuck or liposuction. This 68 year old patient developed breast cancer and underwent a right mastectomy. She underwent breast reconstruction with a right breast tissue expander with exchange for implant. She was not happy with her breast reconstruction, mainly due to symmetry problems; the left breast is too low and lacks upper pole fullness and the right is too high and without enough projection/ low in volume. She was also bothered by her abdomen. She was unable to obtain a more narrow waist despite diet and exercise. There is excess skin and central abdominal fullness (a diastasis). She feels like she has always not had a feminine figure and would like a more narrow waist.
