Breast Reconstruction Revision

This Harrisburg area patient is a 37 year old female who developed breast cancer. She underwent immediate bilateral skin sparring mastectomies with tissue expander placement under the pectoralis muscle (and ADM in the lower pole). Chemotherapy. No radiation. She underwent breast reconstruction with tissue expanders with exchange for silicone gel implants. She was not happy with breasts being too lateral and low. She says her surgeon placed smaller implants than what was discussed. She changed surgeons. Her implants were 305cc HP silicone. Bra 34C. She wanted to be the same size as before her mastectomies. She underwent one revisional surgery: exchange of implants to Mentor SHPX-595 High Profile Xtra Smooth Silicone Gel Implants (C cup bra size after), lateral and inferior capsulorrhaphies. Breast reconstruction. The goal is to restore one or both breast to near normal shape, appearance, symmetry and size following mastectomy, lumpectomy or for congenital deformities. Breast reconstruction usually involves multiple procedures performed in stages. When the breast reconstruction process starts at the time of mastectomy it is referred to as immediate breast reconstruction. When breast reconstruction starts any time after the mastectomy it is referred to as delayed breast reconstruction. The type of mastectomy, the type of treatment for cancer (chemotherapy and radiation) can have a large effect on the outcome of the breast reconstruction.
