Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to relieve discomfort associated with overly large breasts. There are many different breast reduction techniques. This medial pedicle breast reduction technique: lifts the nipple to a more normal position, creates a more youthful shape to the breast emphasizing cleavage and upper pole fullness while minimizing the scarring (no scars in the décolletage).
This is a 20 year old female with large breasts ( macromastia ). She has had large breasts since puberty. She has suffered significant disability to include breast pain, back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, grooving in her shoulders, for many years. She wears a 32D size bra. Functionally she is unable to exercise secondary to the large size of her breasts. She underwent a medial pedicle bilateral breast reduction with the removal of 350g (0.7 lbs) per breast. All of her symptoms resolved within 2 weeks.
