Pretrichial brow lift, upper blepharoplasties, levator muscle advancement

This is a 71 year old female who has had difficulty seeing. Her eyebrows are below the orbital rim, her upper eyelids are covering her pupil and she has excess skin on her upper eyelids. These 3 problems were addressed in one surgery. Eyebrow surgery (a brow lift) can elevate the eyebrows to a more normal position. When the eyebrows are ptotic, or low, the eyelid skin can shift downward, causing the upper eyelid to seem to have extra skin. This extra skin can push the upper eyelid lower. This can lead to vision obstruction, making it seem like a blepharoplasty is needed, when in fact elevation of the eyebrows will pull up the skin and then there won’t be excess on the eyelids. A brow lift is sometime done to improve vision, if the eyebrows are ptotic. Eyelid surgery or a blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper lids, lower lids or both. It can also be used to help with your vision if the upper eyelid is droopy. Sagging extra skin of the upper eyelid can disturb the contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision. Fat deposits can cause the upper eyelid to appear puffy. Sometimes the levator muscle which controls the upper eyelid needs to be adjusted in addition to removal of the upper eyelid skin. Bags and wrinkles on the lower eyelid can be treated with a lower eyelid blepharoplasty.
