Breast Augmentation Mastopexy
Breast Augmentation Lift. More people have been losing weight in the United States. Many patients have gone on to lose a substantial amount of weight as part of their weight loss journey. As part of weight loss, loss of breast volume has been a common problem with this outcome. Patients often ask to return to their previous fuller, lifted breast volumes (similar as during pregnancies). These patients with low volume droopy breasts are ideal candidates for breast augmentation lift.
The breast implant replaces the volume and fills out the upper poles. It also gives cleavage and good nipple projection. The mastopexy or breast lift portion of the procedure will lift the nipple to a more normal youthful normal position.
If only a breast lift were performed, the nipple would rise to a normal position, but the volume would remain low volume. The implant will increase the volume.
This procedure is typically done at an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. A pocket is made under the breast, and a sizer is placed and filled to the proposed breast volume. Then the mastopexy portion of the procedure is performed over the sizer. Once the breast anatomic shape is determined, the sizer is removed, and the final breast implant is placed into the pocket.
The recovery is very similar to a breast reduction procedure. Typically, patients need approximately a week off work if they work at a desk job. For more labor-intensive jobs, a patient might need 2 weeks off work. Total healing time is approximately 6 weeks to resume completely normal activities.
The results generally last for many years. As with normal life activities, people gain and lose weight, and this also can affect the breast volume and shape. Generally, most patients with an implant, like the fullness in the upper pole that the implant gives which is very stable and they are generally very happy with long term results.
