About BOTOX

Board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Theodore T. Foley offers BOTOX at Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania in Camp Hill, PA, to correct facial wrinkles. BOTOX is a nonsurgical skin treatment that utilizes botulinum toxin type A to relax facial muscles for a smooth, youthful appearance. Botulinum toxin type A derives from bacteria that works specifically to temporarily freeze muscle contraction. This process enables the skin over the muscle to appear smooth and even. During the procedure, injections sites are carefully marked and the BOTOX is strategically injected to diminish wrinkles and fine lines. Since BOTOX temporarily corrects dynamic wrinkles, treatment will need to be repeated every 3 – 4 months to maintain results.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for BOTOX injections are in good health who show the following signs:

  • Dynamic wrinkles
  • Smile and/or frown lines
  • Lines around the eyes ("crow’s feet")

What to Expect

Patients first come in for a consult with our Plastic Surgeon to determine if she/he is a candidate for BOTOX and if that would be the most efficacious treatment. Upon the discretion of both the physician and patient, the patient may be able to receive BOTOX that same visit or may have to return a separate time for the injection.

During your consult, the Plastic Surgeon will look at the quantity, depth, and location of your dynamic wrinkles to mark the areas of the muscles of the face that will be treated. For treatment, an ultra-fine syringe will be used to inject the BOTOX. Most patients report mild discomfort when the needle pierces the skin, but numbing creams and cold compresses can be used to make your treatment more comfortable.

Other Considerations

Besides some swelling and redness for 3 – 4 hours, you should be able to return to your regular activities after the injection. We encourage all of our BOTOX patients to avoid exercise for 24 hours and to sleep upright the first night after the treatment. Complete results after BOTOX are visible (smoother forehead and diminished wrinkles) in about 5 – 7 days. Many patients feel that BOTOX treatments make their skin look radiant, they feel younger, and look well rested.

A new patient may receive her/his first BOTOX injection at our office during the initial consult or during BOTOX week after she/he has had a consult with our Plastic Surgeon who has prepared the injection plan. The first time a patient receives BOTOX at our practice, she/he will receive it from our Plastic Surgeon. Subsequent injections may be done by either our Physician Assistant or Plastic Surgeon. All established patient BOTOX injections are only done during BOTOX week.  Patients may choose to inject with either provider. The Plastic Surgeon will direct the plan of injection for the Physician Assistant to complete.

However, patients are required to only receive BOTOX at that appointment. So if you would like other fillers and/or have other consult questions, please book a separate appointment with our Plastic Surgeon that is not during your BOTOX week appointment. Patients normally receive BOTOX every 4 months and tend to book ahead in order to have a spot!
