About Kybella
At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania in Camp Hill, PA, Dr. Theodore T. Foley offers Kybella to reduce excess fat pockets in the neck in the area under the chin to treat the appearance of a "double chin." Our plastic surgery practice understands that no matter how much you diet and exercise, stubborn fat may remain in unwanted areas like the submental area (the upper neck just below the chin). For this reason, board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ted Foley is excited to offer Kybella injections to eliminate unsightly fat. Kybella is an FDA-approved treatment that is composed of deoxycholic acid, which effectively destroys fat cells in the submental area without surgery. Multiple treatments may be necessary to obtain optimal outcomes, but many patients have been thrilled with the results of their Kybella treatment. While Kybella provides long-lasting results for mild to moderate amounts of fat, surgical liposuction may be recommended to achieve more dramatic results.
Do I Qualify?
If you are 18-years-of-age and older, you may qualify for Kybella if you have the following:
- Mild to moderate fat under your chin (also known as a "double chin," or "turkey neck")
- Would prefer a nonsurgical approach for neck fat reduction
You may not wish to have neck liposuction as this stage in your life, and Kybella allows you to have a nonsurgical treatment that is injected into the submental area (where the chin and neck meet) to reduce fat and correct your facial profile.

What to Expect
At your out-patient Kybella injection session in our office, we will mark the area of your neck to be treated and topically numb the area before beginning the needle insertion. Prepare yourself for several small injections into the fatty area of the chin. Icing the area may also be used to limit the amount of pain you feel after the injection. You can expect your treatment session to last about 15-30 minutes. Many of our patients have multiple sessions (2 – 6) spaced out a month a part. On average patients need 3 treatments.
Other Considerations
The good news about Kybella injections is that there is no downtime, however, patients will experience swelling and some minor pain, bruising, and redness. These side effects may last a couple days, and if they last longer, please contact our office. Many of our patients see a distinct change in their neck fat with one treatment! However, most patients want to see a noticeable difference and come back for the full series of injection sessions.
