Overview
Board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Theodore T. Foley offers lower body lift surgery to improve the appearance of the torso, abdomen, thighs, and buttocks by removing loose, excess skin. This procedure utilizes multiple lift surgeries to achieve a slimmer, smoother body contour. At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania in Camp Hill, PA, Dr. Foley uses advanced techniques and the latest technology to accomplish a sleeker silhouette in the lower half of the body. During the procedure, excess skin and some areas of fat are removed from the lower body to tighten the skin around the muscle and tissues. Surgical Techniques
As discussed in your treatment planning session, there will be multiple procedures completed at once during a lower body lift. Common procedures performed within a lower body lift are a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), panniculectomy, thigh lift, and butt lift. The surgical technique will be discussed with you, along with the risks and what type of scar it will make. Our diligent plastic surgeons will take the necessary precautions to hide scarring, made by the incisions, within the natural folds and creases of your skin. We can also mask or obliterate scars with nonsurgical scar removal procedures.
During/After Surgery
All of the lower body lift procedures will be performed at a local hospital or an accredited surgical center with a general anesthetic. Depending on the number of procedures performed within your lower body lift, the length of your operation could last 3 – 4 hours or longer. You may be required to spend several nights in the hospital so that your progress can be monitored as this is a very extensive procedure. Your post-operation nurse will also manage your level of pain and help minimize your discomfort.
In Recovery
Once you are home recovering, we ask that you rest for at least 2 weeks post-op, and continue to take all medications you were prescribed. Swelling and bruising are normal body responses to this surgery, and it may take 6 months or more to fully recover. Delayed healing, bleeding, scarring, infection, and blood clotting in the legs are all risks that can be avoided with precaution and care.
You will need to make gentle movements starting on day 2 to keep your blood circulating. Wear compression garments as recommended by your plastic surgeon, especially wear the abdominal compression garment for the first 12 weeks. You may be able to resume strenuous activities in week 8, or at the recommendation of your plastic surgeon.
Other Considerations
Though differences are visible within the first week, it takes 6 – 12 months before the optimal appearance becomes apparent in your body contour. Your skin will continue to age, and you will still experience a skin laxity change over the course of your lifetime. It is truly important to adhere to a healthy lifestyle and exercise regimen after a lower body lift so that you can enjoy the results of this surgery for many years.
Learn More About LBL
When you are at your goal weight and it has stabilized, you may be left with unwanted excessive skin that will not be remedied by more diet and exercise. Many patients need a surgical intervention to achieve that last step in their body transformation. We also see patients that have mature skin that has lost its elasticity, and want to reshape their lower body and remove the lax skin. We would love to schedule a consultation with you to discuss how you could benefit from a lower body lift. Call today for more information.
Cost of Lower Body Lift
The cost of a Lower Body Lift ranges on average from $16,000. If you are comparing prices between different plastic surgery practices, make sure you are comparing the fees which include all aspects of your upcoming surgery. These prices include the physician, anesthesia, and facility fees assuming that your surgery is being completed in a surgery center. If your surgery needs to be performed at the hospital, the fees will be ~$1500-$2000 more depending on the procedure, the surgical time, and whether or not you choose to stay overnight at the hospital. Also, your best choice for a cosmetic procedure of any kind is to choose a plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Theodore Foley, who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who is local to you. Not only will you receive the best surgical care that way, but you will also receive the best postoperative care. At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central PA, we encourage patients to call for a complimentary personal consultation with our plastic surgeon so a customized quote can be prepared for you by our staff.
